The words they heard

[Verse 1] Some things are written long before we know A quiet plan unfolding soft and slow A phone call in December, winter air A voice that felt like answered prayer A gas station in Farmingdale that night Two strangers stepping into heaven's light [Chorus] Thank God for you, thank God for every year For every laugh, for every silent tear Through every storm your love has held me through Twenty-three years and I still thank God for you [Verse 2] That third date you arrived with roses red A million-dollar smile, my heart just fled I knew right then that you were meant for me Valentine's proposal, destiny A May day wedding, Bermuda waters blue June, every chapter starts and ends with you [Chorus] Thank God for you, thank God for every year For every laugh, for every silent tear Through every storm your love has held me through Twenty-three years and I still thank God for you [Bridge] When our baby girl came fighting from the start You carried all that weight upon your heart You shed your tears then wiped them clean away June, you showed us strength and grace each day [Verse 3] You raised them all with arms that never fold A father's love more precious than pure gold You stare at me and say can't I just look Your eyes still read me like your favorite book Before we sleep those three words fill the room I never knew what love was until you, June [Chorus] Thank God for you, thank God for every year For every laugh, for every silent tear Through every storm your love has held me through Twenty-three years and I still thank God for you [Outro] If today should be my last I need you to know I died the happiest woman, loving you so

[0:01] Hi, my name is Sali. [0:03] I made this song for my husband, George. [0:06] Um, I did it for our 23rd wedding anniversary in May, 2026 this year. [0:14] Um, before I ordered the song, I hesitated because I had to write a story. [0:22] But then I, um, after my sister did one for her husband, I said, 'You know what? Let me see if I can sum this up,' have the time to sit here and have them put it into a song for me. [0:32] Um, I didn't have any doubts because I know he would be moved by it and that, um, he would love it. [0:37] It was just a point of putting it together and trying to sum it up and you did better than I even expected. [0:43] Um, so basically, um, I wanted to go for it once I saw how, um, well my sister's came out. [0:52] I said, 'You know what? Let me see what I can do for my husband,' you know. [0:56] Um, basically, when I heard it, I was so touched by it. [1:01] I mean, I had to keep listening to it on my headset, I ordered it so early. [1:05] Um, it brought me to tears because it was a true story and it was so, so, so emotional, nice, beautiful, and so well written. [1:13] Um, if someone really want to express how they feel about someone, share, share with them in a song, you know, share with them in a song. [1:22] And what was nice is the fact that I decided to, um, do it in a way that, um, I explained to him that the song was for him. [1:30] Um, I had the words typed up already. [1:34] You know, the words were already sent to me, I took the words [1:37] and I put it, um, onto, you know, I printed it and put it into like a clear sleeve. [1:45] So when he heard the song, he was also looking at the words to see what it was saying. [1:49] So it meant a lot to him, but if anybody's thinking about it, definitely go for it. [1:53] [phone ringing]

“But they're impossible to buy for.”

That is usually the point. Someone who already owns everything, or who insists on nothing, cannot be given a thing — but nobody already owns a song about their own life. You don't need to write, or be musical, or know what to say. You answer the same handful of questions Salasah did, and the writing is our job.
